The Associate Editor plays a key role in the journal’s review process. Working in close collaboration with a Co-Editor, Associate Editors manage manuscripts from the post–desk review stage through to the editorial decision and, eventually, publication. Their responsibilities include commissioning referee reports, assessing referee feedback, and formulating editorial recommendations. This position represents the main entry point to future senior editorial roles within the BEJ and offers valuable experience in academic publishing and peer review management.

Applications are open to students enrolled in MSc programs or in the third year of a BSc program. Ideal candidates demonstrate a strong interest in economic research and familiarity with the literature in their chosen field.

The selection process consists of two stages:

  1. Submission of the online application form.

  2. Shortlisted candidates will be asked to prepare a referee report on a paper selected according to their stated research interests.

Note that a brief interview may be requested if deemed necessary.
